I am trying to format a disk that has windows XP. The message is "windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive." What am I missing? Thanks

It sounds like you're trying to format your Windows partition which cannot be done from within Windows. You need to format it using a floppy disk or a windows installation cdrom (boot from the cdrom).
