I feel like I’ve been living under a rock for the last two years, it was only a week ago when I read about DVD upscaling basically players that will attempt to play DVD’s at high resolutions.

Now I’ve seen standalone DVD players that can do this, but are the any DVD-Rom’s, DVD+-RW drives for the PC that can do this?

I'm not sure how large the upscaling would be. Hardware and transfer rates dictates the performance.
By looking at this page, you can see tha the max bitrate for DVD is 10,08mbps, or effectively 1,32MB/s max per second (video+audio). The max tranfer rate for dvd is somewhere between 20 and 30 mbps, so I guess there's still room for more.. Not sure how current standalone DVD players would handle a higher transfer rate.
