New home construction that I intend to install a structured wiring panel for CATV, telephone (land line), and internet access. CATV and broadband internet service are via Time Warner here, with internet service via a modem that they supply. This modem will be housed in this enclosure. What would I need to 'split' this modem's signal?
Would it be a router? gateway? hub? switch? I want to 'hardwire' each ethernet port from this device to it's respective wall jack, although a wireless signal throughout the residence is an option as well. Wired networking between computers, printers, etc. is not necessary at this point. What should I look for that will provide a good signal to each computer, yet be inexpensive as well? Ethernet cabling will be Cat 5e and I will need at least 10 ports. BTW, I don't anticipate any gaming at all on these systems.
Thanks in advance !

You'll need a router plus a switch to give you enough ports.

most home routers have a built in switch with 4-5 ports. So like grumpy said you will have to hook up a second switch to one of the ports on the router to get the extra connections. I would suggest getting a 16 port switch, and a router. connect the switch to the router with one ethernet cable. simply do not use the other ports on the router. It will not affect your speeds. I would also make sure both the router and switch run at gigabit speeds. Then basically if you want to cable something one end in switch, then other at destination.
