I was wondering if anyone could help me Overclock my FX-62? I am running it on a crosshair mobo with the latest Bios update. Using Air cooling I am getting it up to about 346*9 which is about 3.11. I have to use about 1.525volts to make it to that speed and its getting to about 52c running Prime 95 for about 4 or so hours. I was wondering If there is anyway to get it beyond that speed using more volts or if that would be bad for the CPU. I was using speedfan to check the temps but don't know which one is the CPU. I got 52c from asus probe but I have read that its not very acurate. I have PNY 800mhrz DDR2 at 4-4-4-12 2.1v. I have read bad reviews on it that it really runs at 667mhrz so that is the only bottleneck I can see affecting me. Also is there and better multi I should use other than 9?

I can't answer your questions (yet), but I just ordered my fx-62 yesterday and would like to keep this thread going with you. I will probably receive my parts on Tuesday, build it, then install software all day Saturday, and run minor benchmarks, burn in, and begin oc'ing on Sunday, next weekend.

I have seen people getting them to 3.3 Ghz fairly commonly, what sort of cooling are you operating your fx with? How about case air flow, and cooling?

I also will be using a crosshair, with crucial ballistix pc6400 running 4-4-4-12. I'll be using a Thermalright Ultra 120 heatsink for cooling, coupled with an oem silent 120 fan which I don't have the specs for but may be replacing as it was only $5 coupled with the heatsink.
I have an Apevia xplorer case with 2 80mm intake fans, and an 80mm blowhole, along with a thermaltake 120 smartfan for exhaust. This case is supposed to have excellent air flow for its price range. It will be interesting to see.

As far as speed fan is concerned, it should be fairly accurate and I think the highest temp reported will be your cpu temp (unless for some reason it is reporting your video card information, that would most likely be the highest). Does the Asus probe (52c) closely resemble any of the temps reported by speedfan? That should give you a clue. Also try underclocking your proc and see which temp drops most dramatically.

For my current setup (athlon 2500+), my temps are as follows:
Temp 1 = 40c not sure, southbridge maybe?
Temp 2 = 64c processor, a bit high gotta clean my case! oc too
Temp 3 = 45c probably chipset, a bit warmer than ambient
hd1 = <37c hard disc 1, nice and cool.
You should be able to find your proc temp in the bios as well, but that is also just what is being reported by the motherboard.

To get another perspective, you could use a probe from a fan controller, or I think you can find a temp gun for 30-50 dollars.
For me I am pretty trusting of the temps reported by my motherboard.

Thanks for you reply. I have a Zalman 9700 NT for the CPU cooler and a 130 CFM and a 113CFM 120mm intake fans and another 130 CFM for the exhaust. The case I am using is a Lian-Li memorial (snailshell). I should have good airflow because my PC sounds like a jet with all the fans on full-blast. Plus I have a 92mm fan on my TR Hr-03 cooler on a 8800gtx facing upwards in the case. It seems like I am stuck at 3.11 at 1.537 volts completely stable right now. Tried going to 3.15 but it took over 1.565 and still was only 5 hours orthos stable. I think I am going to purchase some better ram because these modules say they are pc6400 but they will barley go over 800mghrz even when I take them to 5-5-5-15. I am thinking about either some Mushkin redline, OCZ, or crucial as you had mentioned you are going to be running. Running orthos for about 24 hours my peak temp was 55c which is pretty high but I would think I still had a little headroom. One flaw I found was the newest bios would not post after I changed the FSB because it would keep the 14 multi. So I switched back to Bios 0702. I have the HT and NB voltages at 1.45 and SB at 1.55. Not sure if it matters what I do to the SB since I only have One video card. I have not touched any of the DRAM settings in the bios other than the main timings because I have no idea what the rest of that stuff does. Might try and reset the heatsink or use different thermal paste. I am usuing Arctic Silver Ceramique for the CPU. I will be anxios to see how high you can also OC you FX as well. Also I was looking into lapping either the heat sink and or the CPU for better temp then maybe it would OC a little farther. Was wondering if that would be a good idea and could potentially get me a better OC.

I would agree that some better ram should help you out. 55C isnt to bad for 3+Ghz as a max. But i have never heard of anyone Ocing PNY stuff, all i think about when i think PNY is BesT Buy, so it doesnt sit well with me, but some high quality ram would deff help some. Maybe some OCZ or Cosair some the the Dominator Series. They should OC for you pretty good. Maybe get some 1066 Mhz ram. Also u might want to try and use core temp to look at your temps, it will give you a better idea of where you are at temp wise. It is a little more accuarate then smart fan, at least in my experince it has been.
