My niece just graduated with a degree in IT. I want to buy her all the tools she will need but I am lost as to which antivirus/malware software would be the best for her to use on her clients computers. Is there something for professionals?

I use the free version of Malwarebytes and create rescue CDs from Avira Antivir, works all the time. Aside from situations where you need to do a full OS re-installation and you need the OS disks. Never had a situation where I could not clean out a virus using free tools.

Antivirus removal is just one part of being in IT. She may be better off with something like a technet subscription.

+1 ^ great idea. I have not used that in a long time but when I had it and needed it, was very handy.
