Hi all, I have a problem that is driving me nuts. Anytime that I access my DVD burner for any task it brings my entire computer to its knees. It happens on both read and write functions and seems completely independent of what programs are being run.

The Drive itself seems to work just fine. I can rip audio CD's and burn CDs/DVDs and the outcome is always fine, but while the task is being performed my mouse is jumpy, audio slows down and skips etc.

I have updated the firmware on my drive, and updated my motherboard drives to no effect.

If anyone has any insight on this it would be appreciated.

I am running Windows XP Professional SP2

Check you have DMA transfer enabled (assuming it's a parallel ATA device).

under device manager ---> primary IDE -->advanced setting it says "current transfer mode :Ultra DMA Mode 5"

Should it be something else?

Might be pertinent, my system is running with 2 Hard Drives, both using SATA. my DVD burner is using IDE.
