I have a 250gig WD Cavier HD seen here : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822144701

I have taken to scanning lots of documents etc and saving on hard drive. In the past, if I had to reformat the HD, I really didnt care, but now I do.

I have know very little of the different Raids, and even less on how the work and to set up.

I want to back up my HD so if I lose a HD, I have another ready to go.

I also see people using small Raptor drives. Why is this?

I have about $150 to spend on this project and need advice.

I dont know if software plays into this, but I do have Drive Image 7... never used it..

Thanks for any advice

Ok, I did a bit of studying. I dont need raid for speed, just data protection.

I have lost data by having a HD fail and also with me installing newhardware/drives etc causing a reformat.

In a perfect world I would want something I could boot from if necessary (although I can see issues with new hardware drivers, etc) that also has all my "stuff" on it.
