Hi, i am new here so if i do anything wrong please dont beat me!

Over the w/e my old PC msi MEGA 865 died (RIP 2003 - 2007) motherboard and power supply problems.
I tried to recover the data from the c drive (IDE Maxtor 6Y12OPO ATA Device) by installing it in an old PC running XP, the old PC recognized the drive but said it required formatting, Assuming it was because the old pc is formatted FAT32 and the maxtor drive is NTFS i bought a new PC - Vista home premium with a SATA drive. I have installed the maxtor drive and it is recognized, but vista says it has an unrecognizable file system and reqiures a format.

Please can anyone help!!

Some hdd mfg have file recovery programs, check the Maxtor website. There is commercial software as well but if Maxtor has it, it should be free. While it's been a while since I've used it I think Partition Magic can change the drive to NSTF without formatting it, i.e., destroying the data
