Unless you plan on running 8800s you are probably better off with a single, better card than SLI.

By the time you deside to get a second graphics card PCI-Express 2.0 with 32x PCI-E comes out eary next year. Theres no such thing as future proofing. Don't waist you money on SLI, get one monster graphics card should be enough.
