Hi all-

When one visist a forum, whether it is this forum or any other, is there any way possible for "forum administrators" (for lack of a better term) to identify me (i.e. my name, address, etc.) in any way? For example, I have a Comcast cable internet accout. Is it possible for someone to "trace" a post back to me? Just curious......

P.S. no, I'm not trying to hide anything :) Just debating a point with my buddy...

If you connect directly to the site, it's certainly possible. RIAA does this sort of thing all the time by having subpoenas issued to the respective ISPs.

If you use an anonymous HTTP proxy, you might be able to pull it off. On the other hand, you can't really verify that the proxy isn't recording your connection history.

Thanks. That's what I thought. So basically it is possible, but short of a subpoena, one's identity is "safe."
