I have a noob question. I am building my first rig, and this will be the first time I have dual ethernet connections on my computer. I know that these are setup for LAN gaming and such. Does this mean I could have my gaming computer directly attached to the modem, and the router connected to the second port to feed the rest of my computers, allowing me to eliminate any router lag? I haven't really gamed on this new Netgear N router I have, but I know I had serious gaming issues on my old Linksys.

If this is possible, will I lose the ability to connect to the computers networked through the router? If so, is there a way to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

I have a dual lan as well but I don't see any configuration on using one of the other to what you say.... the only thing it can do is team-up to become one lan connection but I needed to load the driver for TEAMING and there is no configuration weather to team or use it separately.... It automatically got teamed-up once you load the driver.... I have a DFI LTX38 MOBO

you would need to get 2 ip addresses from your isp. you probably dont get this already so that would mean more money. Also, router lag? you do realize that when gaming online your signal travels over several routers and miles and miles of cable. your "router lag" is like a drop in the ocean. but the answer? yes it could be done. you would be bridging your connection which would mean your computer would have to be on at all times for your router to get a connection and if your computer is running applications to the point that it is experiencing slowdown you will notice slowdown on the connection to the router.

Conclusion: possible? yes.  practical? no

I this mean I need to have two different roadrunner connections to get the full advantage of dual lan feature?

no. you would need 2 ip addresses leased to you on your current internet subscription to use the setup he was reffereing to. dual lan really serves no purpose exept for ics, bridging, or connecting to two different networks. even if you had two internet connections in your house, you could not get them to work together the way you want.
