Gentlemen,

I have been looking at upgrading my PC for sometime, and I am waiting not very patiently for the Intel price drops on the 22nd July. On the Mobo front I have been looking at the new Asus mobo and wondered if they only take DDR3 or will they take DDR2 in the short/medium term. At least until DDR3 gets to be worth having.

Thanking you in advance.

The P5k supports DDR2. The P5k3 is DDR3 only. The P5k deluxe is good overclocker and a decent improvement over the P65 chip set.

Thanks Jonnyli and Buff,

It has stopped me making a page one mistake. Is DDR3 worth it at the moment. Looking at the costs compared to DDR 2, it is very expensive, or am I best off looking at the P5K and not worrying aboyt the P5K3?

DDR2 provides better performance right now, low-latency DDR3 isn't widely available and the stuff that does exist isn't all that great.

At this point in time, DDR3 is just a waste of money. It has higher latencies and cost whole lot more than DD2 memory. Go for the P5k deluxe and get some nice high end DDR2 over clocking memory.

If you want DDR2 AND DDR3 support get Asus P5KC :

True, but by the time DDR3 is worth the cost there will be nicer mobos out there, with PCI-E 2.0 and so on.
