It's been hard to find anyone else with this same problem but it's been driving me nuts.

Laptop running XP SP2 with a wireless connection to ASDL. I have no firewall software installed and have turned off microsoft firewall.

IE (6) can connect and works fine on internet, as can MSN messenger.
But no other application can connect to internet - Outlook, Anti-virus(for update), Firefox etc

If I try to ping any site then it resolves the IP but fails the ping with error code 65. I cant even ping the router !

Same happens if I plug the cable into the router. And it's my second router so it's not that (And other laptops have connected fine)

I am really out of ideas. Why do the microsoft programs work ok but nothing else ??

Help !

Sounds like a Windows problem. Do you currently have your Windows updated? Did you just chose not to install IE 7? You may have to do a clean install of Windows?

FIXED !!!

After doing some more searches I found a suggestion that worked.

It was that damned ZoneAlarm !!! I had uninstalled it a while back and that caused it.
I reinstalled it and now everything works fine. Stupid software !

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
