Hey everyone,
I am trying to figure out if upgrading my router would improve latency, or if all routers would split bandwidth as bad as mine.
On my server, when im hosting on my router through the LAN port, everyone gets like 200ms+ ping, and easily jolts up to 8000ms+ when combat or something else that sends/recieves alot of packets take place.
Now when I connect directly into my modem, everyone gets <100ms, and as low as 10ms when idle. (It's wireless and my mom and sister connect to it, so I know my bandwidth is probably 1/3 of what it is when plugged into the modem. Maybe there is a way on my router to assign max bandwidth?)

My internet is in the highest quality cable that you can buy through earthlink, according to the website it's "Up to 7.0Mbps". On my router (a few years old) it says "54mbps", and on the high-end routers some of them support 300mbps. What would be the point of having a router which supports some astronomically high numbers?
