I'm wondering if there is any distance learning program that can get me some kind of official certification in networking. I am willing to buy books/syllabi but I don't want to enroll in some kind of e-university. Never trusted those.

Has any of you experience with this kind of tuition?

Self-Paced Study.

Network+ is the basic of network understanding. Single certification test that runs you through the basic and some slightly advanced stuff on Networks.

CompTIA is the program that does the certifications; check out their webpage and you'll find a list of their certifications. Buy a book, study it, take the test.
