Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected

Forum Windows 7 : General Discussion Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected

Hello everyone,

I'm busy installing a computer for a friend but we're stuck at an error.
This are the computer specs to start with:

Asus P8P67-M Pro Rev 3
1 TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ
Intel Core i5 2500K
Corsair 8GB 1600 mhz
Scythe Mugen 2 rev B
GeForce GTX 570
Lian Li Lancool PC-K56
Corsair CX 600W
Optiarc AD-72605 DVD RW SATA

The BIOS boot priority is 1# Dvd Player and 2# Harddrive (so it detects both).
It's also a SATA harddrive so I don't need to do anything with jumpers.
Then when I insert the Windows 7 DVD it outputs the following error:

reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected

The PC is new and got build at a store so the only thing I need to do is install the software.

Any clues what could be the problem?

Greetings!

if you have an external dvd player handy it may be an idea to try loading it from that--if its seeing your dvd drive in the bios then its basically not reading the disc

or if youre happy to open it try connecting the dvd drive to a different controller--its got an intel sata controller and a marvel controller so try it on the one its not connected to

dumb question - are you pressing the "any" key when it prompts "press any key to boot from cd/dvd ROM"? it only gives a 5 second delay before booting to second device..

Also, do you hear the DVD-rom spin up when the PC boots?

I have no external DvD player and it and the DvD player is showing up properly in the BIOS it's also connected to the SATA input on the motherboard and I made sure it was connected correctly.

We don't get to that message I mean that's usually when things go correctly then you press a key and it loads but it just gives the error message I've said instead of the one you're saying.

The boot priority is fine (first dvd then hdd)
You can hear the DvD player working

It's very weird, I never had this problem before

try a different bootable disc to rule out your disc being the problem--ubuntu or something like that--you dont even need to install it as it can run as a live cd

Alright I still had some old ubuntu cd's laying around here and I just tried it and the same error shows up.

then i would try connecting it to a different sata controller--or if your not happy to open it take it back to whoever built it and get them to sort it

^that or it's a bad drive

Try setting the SATA port the DVD drive is connected to IDE mode, some just don't like AHCI.

Thanks for the help everyone, I appreciate it. Brought it back to the store where I bought it to sort it out. If they tell me what the problem was when they're done I'll let everyone know :)

i had the same problem b4 but now its solved successfully...my recommendation is try to boot using removable drive (pendrive/flashdrive etc.)...i forgot the link but something to do with "how to boot from flash drive"
