I scanned the FAQ section and did a few searches, but I think my question is a bit complicated to search for.

I just set up a new wireless router that I have connected to my computer via a wired connection. By this, I mean I have my modem connected to my router and my router connected to my computer. The only reason I got a router was for my Wii & DS and for eventually to use Skype with a specialized phone.

My question is, do I need to secure my router so that no one can access my connection and whatnot, or is my system and connection safe given my wired connection? I would think that if my Wii can pick up a wirelss signal anyone nearby could as well. If there are security settings I need to implement, what (in general) would I need to do to shut out unwanted users?

Does what I've asked make sense? This is my first go at using a router, so please forgive my ignorance. Thanks.

yes you need to secure it. Under wireless security choose WPA or WPA2. Then encryption type does not really matter. Then, enter a strong passkey. When you try to connect on your wii and ds you will have to input that passkey.
