Greetings! I'm putting in another desktop on the other side of the house (2500sqft) and am looking at wireless networking to connect the machines together and to the internet. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly certain what it is that I need to buy. I'm seeing access points and routers and such.

Currently I've got a 2Wire DSL modem plugged into an ethernet hub. My desktop and laptop are plugged into the hub and all works fine. So what sort of equipment should I be looking at buying?

I've also read where wireless networks will interfere with my cordless phones. Is this true? And I'm also concerned about security, given thread topics such as the one above on cracking WEP. Any suggestions (or links) on securing the network would be appreciated.

Thanks!

get a router with wired ports and wireless. put that in place of your hub. your computer will need a wireless card to communicate with the router. this can be a usb device or an internal device(i would suggest internal personally for a desktop). wep is old. use wpa and you will be fine as its not really crackable with anything other than a brute force attack, and with a good passkey thats long and random characters, not gonna happen.

You could have a problem with interference as they sometimes use the same frequencies. However, I think the newer N devices use 5 ghz bands instead of 2.5, so maybe better luck with those. Or try different channels as well.
