More Information

My roommate and I are moving to a slightly larger apartment, and we're considering a wireless network. Here are the desired devices:

  • Windows Vista PC (AMD Athlon X2 6000+) "main" computer
  • Windows XP PC (AMD Athlon 64 XP 3200+)
  • PlayStation 3 60GB
  • Nintendo Wii

The game systems can both apparently do Wi-Fi. The thing is, the computers may be in a separate room from the game systems. I would like to successfully go wireless on all these, thereby wiping out four Ethernet cables from my spaghetti cabling.

I am aware that I would need a wireless router and two PC wireless network cards. However, I would like some advice and/or suggestions (brand names, naming/numbering conventions, etc.) on how to set up a wireless network in this manner. Any information is apprech. Thanks! :)

There are any number of good routers out there, e.g., Netgear, Buffalo Technologies, Lynksys, D Link, ZyXEL. I have the ZyXEL X 550, very easy to set up, good range, and no problems. I recently got BUFFALO WLI-TX4-G54HP IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g Ethernet Port Wireless-G MIMO mainly because I wanted a wireless adapter that would connect externally but would be able to connect through the LAN rather an USB. I work on a lot of family members' computers and wanted something quick and easy to use. Works really well and has 4 ports you could connect game systems to. Once you set the security on it, it works on any machine so you don't to set the network security on the machine or gaming device itself. Worth a look.
