I have owned an original Iomega ZIPCD 650 and I got just a little more than four years out of it. Not bad. Then I went to a Toshiba SD-R5372 and it died in a little more than two years. Just lovely those one year warranties 8O

Forgetting about the published MTBF hours (possible advertising bull), what is the best DVD writer on the market for its lifetime? Some might just salute a brand name, even. I was told by a store clerk HP's had a bad run at one time and I should stay away from them.

I wish I could say I burn one out from overuse. I just used it for the occasional back-ups etc. Opinions, anyone?

Have had great experiences with LG. And Samsung. Beyond that, I can't vouch. Not a fan of Sony or Pioneer or NEC.

Haven't tested for sure, these are just anecdotal experience and from things I've heard. But my LG and Samsung are da shiz LOL :)

I expect the writers manufacturers use to create CD/DVD original music etc are the ticket. When you research and read about 100,000 MTBF before a failure on a commercial product that equates to 11.41 years. They must have meant "beers" and not years.

The reports on the Toshiba's are peppered all over the Internet. I am  I am willing to try Iomega again because storage is their main business. Any seconds to this idea? Yes, Iomegas cost more... but what is your unreadable system back-up worth to you? :!:
