Anyone got a link to benchmark for 8500GT? I've been trying to look around, found a bunch of 8600GT benchmarks, but can't find much of 8500GT.

I'm trying to compare that of 8500GT vs 7600GT/X1650XT since they're all priced equally.

All I know at the moment from reading various websites, which I don't know if they're reliable, is that 7600GT/X1650XT are slightly faster than 8500GT, but 8500GT is faster than 7600GS. And 8500GT is using DDR2 instead, with lower Core Clock and Memory Frequency speed, but has DirectX 10 support. I need more details from benchmarks to see if 8500GT would be a great choice, as 8500GT uses way less power than the other cards mentioned, and even come with passive cooling, which would be great for quiet systems.

I'm building a new system, since E4300's priced drop to $117 on MWave, and the huge drop in DDR2's price.

This is gonna be the 8th C2D system I'm building, and I'm strict on budget, building it, gonna mess with it for a couple weeks, sell it for a profit. xP

look at it this way...a x1300 has dx 9 support....but which dx9 games can it really play without any trouble???

similarly just cause the 8500 has dx10 support, doesnt mean it will be able to play all dx10 games without a flaw. So bringing dx10 into the deciding factor may not be the best choice.

Obviously i could be wrong, since there are no benchmarks out yet that i know of showing any dx10 card playing a dx10 game....as there is no dx10 game out yet.

So since there is no current information on the 8500...you can either wait if your not in any rush, or you can go ahead with one of your other two choices (which by the way, are not bad at all)

however...seeing as you are gonna sell it again, the whole idea of saying "also supports dx10" would probably make it easier to sell :P

I have yet to decide which graphic card I want to get, but I need to look for some benchmark before I make my decision, I usually get $100-200 per system. People who buy my system are usually people I meet from forums, especially HardOCP and TG, some from my college and ex-colleagues. They know of me through the guide I wrote, and they usually pay me pretty well for the effort I put in to overclock the system. What I usually do is, pass them all the receipt/invoice, and ask them to pay for what I've paid for it, on top of that, they tip me whatever they think I deserve. Therefore, the graphic card won't help me in selling it for higher price.

Since the 8600 GT barely beats the 7600GT, it's hard to imagine the crippled 8500 GT being a decent performer.

It's a safe bet the 7600 GT/X1650 XT are still the best performance per dollar in the $100 range.

I haven't looked for 8500GT benchmarks since Friday, maybe some popped up on the weekend. But I think it's fair to say that they'd be pretty bleak. Dismal, in fact. If I recall the specs correctly the 8500GT has half the stream processors of the 8600, slower core speed, and slower memory speed. Given that the 8600 itself is fairly mediocre, the 8500 doesn't sound promising.

Yep:

8600 GT: 32 stream processors, 540 MHz core, 700 MHz mem
8500 GT: 16 stream processors, 450 MHz core, 400 MHz mem

8500 GT = YUCK!

With those dismal specs, it'll probably perform like the X1600 PRO...

OK Guys,i have some 8500 & 8600 series gaming benchmark.
Take a look at Here & Here.
According to the web site :
Nvidia has successfully created this dilemma for the upgraders who's looking at an affordable upgrade in the range of USD200~. The 7950GT or the 8600GTS? The 7900GS or the 8600GT? It would really depends on many factors. One of those is the drivers, the G84/86 are using a different set of drivers from the 7 series, for which I seriously hope that Nvidia can attempt to polish up the drivers as the performance in some of the games ran is simply lacklustre.

Good find. As expected, a pretty sorry show by the 8600 and (especially) 8500.

Yeah man, too shame for a GeForce8 Series card.
even the very over priced 8600GTS can't keep up with the 7950GT.
the 8500 really sucks!
they don't deserve the "GeForce8" title.maybe something like 7600Ultra or 7600GTX or 7600DX10.

Yuk. The only way those cards are gonna sell is if people don't have info about the card before buying, they should probably put on the box "This card really DOES suck"

Or put a chick in the likeness of the ATI girl, and color the box red to confuse people.

Good market strategy.... anyone know of the PSP Pop ripoff.... kinda like that.

The 8500GT can hardly match the X1650 pro and 7600GS; it's way behind the X1650XT and 7600GT.

So, 8500GT is a no go? Damn, I thought I could get a decent, affordable DirectX 10 card going for $100. Wanted to get ready for Vista and shyt, but oh well. Coz if everything turns out well, I'm planning to keep the system, and that only means that I gotta upgrade the graphics card some time in the future, which means wasting even more money.

Right..... Because Dx10 is out.

By the time you can use DX10, the 8800gts 320 might be $150 bucks.

I know how you feel, but the 8500GT and 8600GT are not worth the money. The 8800GTS sounds like your best bet, once prices come down. Like Comptia_Rep said, the 8800GTS will be much cheaper by the time we can really use DX10.

I guess I'll stick with the 7600GT, I could get the FoxConn 7600GT for $75 after rebate, which I think is a steal.

Just my two frames' worth.
