Hello,
We're trying to decide between an HP Pavilion dv6-6110us 15.6" Laptop and an ASUS K53E-bbr4. Both are 15.6"; the HP has an AMD Quad-Core A6-3400M Accelerated Processor (2.3GHz) with 4GB installed memory and a 640GB hard drive. The ASUS has an Intel Core i5 Processor with 4GB memory and a 500GB hard drive. The ASUS is $450; the HP is usually $649, but I can get it for $400. Which one is better?

I'd take ASUS any day over HP.

hp bought compaq. both are crap in my mind.

my mother has the asus i5 model with the brown shiny exterior sold about a year ago. i think it was $500 then so maybe the same thing as the one you are looking at. it has done well so far.

i own the asus i7 model with the brown rippled scratch resistant exterior and real aluminum interior sold at microcenter. i paid about $650. sure it only has a x768 tn display (man i wish it was 1080p and ips) but its quite a beastly little laptop.

so yeah....ASUS for sure. the aluminim interior model with the rippled exterior if its in budget.
