More Information

Hello,

I'm facing the following prob with my system (Asus A8V, A64 4000+, 2x512 MB Infineon, Sapphire x1950pro 512 MB). This problem is for sure not related to the above graphics card because my system had the same behaviour with my previous 6600GT. O.K., in the following I'm talking about 3DMark05 tests, but the results hold true for '03 too, and the demonstrated performance gap below (15%!) is also visible in games and should thus not be Benchmark related.

0. System startup
1. First test: 93xx points. O.K.
2. Second test shortly after: 81xx points. Ooops!
3. Third test: 81xx points. Hmmm ....
4. Reboot
5. Another test: 93xx points. Great!
6. Afraid of another test, but I did it: 81xx points. Why the heck ....
7. Reboot
8. What else: 93xx points
9. But then: 81xx points. I'm frustrated.
10. ....
11. ...
12. ... until u'r going nuts.

The system isn't overclocked and uses the newest drivers, all temps are well below any critical threshhold.

What could be the reason? DX9 bug?

Thx for any explanation.

I have had the same problem with few of my ATI X1900's. The problem was that you should wait a few minutes for the bench mark to unload it self from the RAM completely. It could also be effected by any RAM management Program such as FreeRAM XP and other software such as AV,Web browser etc.

Thank you for the response. Since I'm not a benchmark freak I did the tests with standard security programmes like AVG & Zone Alarm running in the background. I'll give it another try with these programmes not running.

However, it may be in fact somehow related to the RAM. The same effect is visible when doing the following:

1. First test: 93xx, 2nd test 81xx, 3rd test 81xx, .....
2. Change AGP Aperture in BIOS e.g. from 64 to e.g. 128
3. First test: 93xx, 2nd test 81xx, 3rd test 81xx, .....
4. Switch AGP Aperture back from 128 to e.g. 64
5. First test: 93xx, 2nd test 81xx, 3rd test 81xx, .....

Stupid story, isn't it?
