Forgive me for posting a link to the INQ, but I'm going to be highly pissed if they turn out to be right about the prices. I paid $665 for my 8800gtx...granted I got it the day it came out but still. An 8950GX2 for $600 seems like a very good deal. I think it'll give whatever ATI comes out with a run for their money.

This sounds pretty weird:

The current king of the crop, the 8800 GTX will drop in price to $450, while the Geforce 8800 GTS loaded with 640MB of memory stays up in the $400 price range.

Doesn't make sense... nobody would buy a GTS if the GTX was just 50$ more.

these are just rumours, they might be true and may not be, besides I told you guys to wait for some time before paying for a G80.

An X2800XTX2?!?! Ati planning on coming out with their own quad crossfire setup, interesting even if it is just a rumor.

It happens. Newer and better products are always coming out. As they say, once a product has left R&D and into manufacturing, it is obsolete.

I had the same thing with the 7800GT. I purchased mine just three months of so before the 7900GT came out. A better card at a lesser price.

way too fast to release new gpu line...

also... 8900gx2? ouch!
imagine the size of the PCB for two 8800 in one!

also will be really hurting to all the guys who already purchased a gts or a gtx
at the actual premium prices...

$200 for a 8900GS? That's a bargain and a half. Think that might be the performance sweet spot! You could have SLId 8900GS for the price of one 8800GTS....doesn't seem to make sense.

i highly doubt a 8950gx2 however it will serve you right for buying something at such apremium price when it was clearly not needed hell its been out for about 2 months and its still not needed (maybe needed as of tomorrow with supreme commander) new things will always be released things will always get cheaper. will you be pissed off if the r600 is released next month and performs 25% better. i wont because im going to hold out a bit then build when i need to (read crysis or UT3) that way ill be able to be happy in my desicion. untill x2900xtx comes along or barcelona or penryn

my point is we all know what is coming around the corner (bar a couple of surprises like possibly 8950gx2) we all know things will get cheaper. so quit bitching when it happens!!!

Wow, I hope it's true, especially the part about a spring release and the $600 price tag for 8950GX2.

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/7055 [...] index.html

Would anybody care to guess what sort of PSU I'd need for a QX6700/8950GX2 setup? Would something like 650W do, for example? Also, would this thing work in the same motherboards as the 8800 GTX, or not really?

Thanks!

650w....depends on what the 12v rails run. I would most likely say yes, but don't expect a whole lot of room to OC. Any OC at all would probably tip the scale. So while I say it is probably going to work, you are working on a very narrow margin. Just my guess though.

Yeah, the Inq has had me salivating these past few days listing those cards and the 6 ATI's. $600 for the top dual gpu models does seem very cheap, but if that's the case I'll have my eye on how the X2800XTX2 performs. I have never spent more than $350 or so on a card for myself, but this generation could just make me blow $500 or more. It's gonna take crysis benchies to convince me though.

Oh-my-god.

***falling in love with 8950GX2***

***begins preparations for re-selling his 8800 GTX on eBay***

I wonder which will perform better, the GX2 or 8900 GTX? My sneaking suspicion is that the 8900 GTX will be the better performer.

I'm very happy to see nVidia has a spring line up.

I tend to agree. I somewhat doubt the accuracy of the pricing though... there was a different list of prices on some bearpaws Japanese sight that was linked in a different thread. It had the 8800GTX dropping only about $25 I think.

I think we will have to just wait and see.

Early adopters do always pay the price. I managed to restrain myself this time around, mostly as my LCD is limited to 1600 x 1200 and my current card can still handle everything I play at that resolution.

This new lineup looks pretty impressive, but we still don't how the R600 will perform, and then there is still the bigger problem - we still do not know how any of thsese cards performs in true DX10. Everyone (myself included) will be buying one of these choices based on DX9 benchmarks.

Once the cards are out in the public domain, it would be nice to see a efw developers step forward and point out the pros and cons of each solution, however as their publishers will have undoubtedly prepared a script for them promoting one over the other, I doubt it. Maybe Gabe will though.

I am in the same board. a 16x12 LCD.... but the 7900GTX keeps pumping out frames at reasonable rates. BF2142 gets a skip now and then, but its still fluid. Now, FEAR drops me down to the 35 range, but that still works.

*waits for R600*

Are we there yet? 8O
