More Information

Goal: I want to use SATA Ports 3 and 4 on the Promise PDC 20378 controller as non-RAID interfaces.

System Specs:
Mainboard: Tyan S5101 ANNRF REV 1.01
CPU: Intel 2.8C HT
Memory: 2x512MB Crucial PC 3200
Video: Evga FX 5200
Optical: NEC 3520a, NEC 3550a
HDD: Boot Drive: WD 160GB PATA 7200 rpm, 8 MB cache
SATA Port 1: Seagate 120GB SATA I 7200 rpm, 8 MB cache
SATA Port 2: Seagate 120GB SATA I 7200 rpm, 8 MB cache
SATA Port 3: Seagate 500GB SATA II 7200 rpm, 16MB cache (Want to add)
SATA Port 4: Seagate 500GB SATA II 7200 rpm, 16MB cache (Want to add)

BIOS Version 1.12
BIOS Settings: Onboard RAID Controller: Enabled
Promise Mode Select: Ultra ATA

I have attempted to install the following drivers:

1. Promise SATA378 V1.00.0.16 (Shipped With Board)
2. 20378 Ultra (IDEV1.00.0.27) (From Tyan FTP Site)

Results:Both drivers give the same result. An error message appears at the end of the install that says:
"There was a problem installing this device"
"WinXP Promise SATA378(tm) IDE Controller"
"This device cannot start (Code 10)"

And of course the dreaded yellow exclamatiom mark appears next to the device in device manager.

I found this related post in the Motherboardpoint ASUS forum:

Any help in sorting this out would be appreciated.

Problem solved by flashing the BIOS to version 1.13.
