AMD to release first 65 nm processors in December

Published on October 03, 2006

AMD will keep to its promise to ship its first 65 nm processors by the end of this year. The limited supply of the new chip generation, code-named "Brisbane", will be flanked by 90 nm dual-core CPUs with increased clock speed and more L2 cache: Three new processors, led by the Athlon 64 X2 6000+, will bring AMD closer to the performance of Intel's Core 2 Duo. Well, I haven't seen any OC marks yet for the new Brisbane. I have the Windsor 3800 X2 and it's stable OC'd at 2.7Ghz on air. Curious to see what this new stepping does though. It hasn't been out long enough to receive any reviews (That I've seen anyway). Give it a little time and the results should come pouring in.

Me, too, on the gathering intel part... At present, I plan on using the following:

EPoX EP-9NPA3ULTRA Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $74.99
***********************

Thermalright XP-90C Heatsink, No Fan, P4,478 K8,754/939/940
$49.99

I am a big fan of the Thurmalright copper heatsinks.

***********************

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2.0GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor - Retail $175.00

***********************

XFX PVT71PUDE3 Geforce 7900GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 XT Edition Video Card - Retail $211.99

I am not sure what 7900GS to get, but this one looks ok.

My bad. In my heart of hearts, I thought I was looking at S939 CPUs. It is the Manchester I want, unless I change platforms completely.

I'm using a ASUS M2N32-Sli Deluxe. The HSF is a Zalman 9500. Also if you go with a good case, it really helps temps. I'm currnetly at 32C idle and 48C load. Check here for some good info on OCing the AM2.

Also to achieve the best overclock, don't skimp on the DDR2. Get fast good memory. It will allow you to get more out of your OC.

So your building a new 939 system? Doesn't seem like the best idea when AM2 boards and CPUs are cheaply available

The processor is a 3800 X2 Windsor (It was in my first post). I'm using Corsair Xtreme PC6400 Cas4 at the 4-4-4-12 2T timings. 2x1 GB. Great memory actually. I really wanted some Mushkin or OCZ but my motherboard has some problems supporting these. I think it's been worked out now. The memory manufactures had to makes some changes on their DIMMS. But I'm very impressed with the Corsair! I actually had the memory stable at like 1078 Mhz. But I really had to put the voltage to it. Didn't want to get them too hot. Corsair rates them at 1.9V but I have been running at 2.275V for a while now. No problems. Clears Memtest98 multiple times with no errors. My case has some really good ventilation which helps keep the sticks cool.

The highest I can hit stable is 2730 Mhz. But it takes a lot of voltage increase. Anything after that doesn't matter what the voltage is. That's the ceiling for me. It will run on stock volts until about 2.4Ghz. Then you have to start bumping it up. I found a happy medium with temps & performance at about 2.65-2.68 Ghz with memory @ 888Mhz on air.

I can actually boot to Windows @ 2.85Ghz and run programs, But it won't run Prime95 or SuperPI with out immediate errors.

Thanks great input and you sound like a wise overclocker. Not the kind that has a fried CPU for breakfast the next day.
That RAM really puts up with high voltages! Hopefully my OCZ platinum rev2 will too...
Feel free to comment on my future setup (your opinion will be appreciated) on the general overclocking forums "top AM2 overclocking setup".

Whoops! Sorry for the typo. Memory Voltage was suppose to be 2.275V. DDR2 should never be volted over 2.4V. But anyway. Glad I could help ya out.
