Two years ago I purchased a Plextor 712SA DVD burner for my system. I wanted to try Fedora Core 2 but Fedora could not see the SATA burner to install the OS. I did not solve the problem on that system and I moved on.
Now I am building a new system and want to try Ubuntu or SUSE, I want to choose a DVD burner that will be seen by Ubuntu or SUSE.
I have in mind a Plextor 716A (IDE), does anyone know if there are issues with this drive and Linux seeing it?

My system:
Core Duo E6600
Asus P5B Deluxe
2MB (Corsair)
Asus 7600GT
Creative X-Fi
160GB (Seagate)

I am going to dual boot with XP.

Thanks for your input. :)

I would check on the fedoraforum, ubuntu form, etc to be sure.... I know alot of the sata problems in the past had to do with what sata chipset you were using.... I think VIA, for instance has a bug in their one chipset....

http://www.fedoraforum.org/

I personally use fedora, and I think most if not all the sata issues have been solved since then... They are up to version 6 beta now....

let me know what you find out, I am interested in knowing the answer now, myself :D
