I am about to start working away from home more frequently and am
looking at implementing a VC-over-broadband system so I can
communicate visually whilst away. My requirements are for a
totally-simple system at the home end for wife/kids to operate, and a
mobile solution for my laptop. I would prefer the solution to be open
standards so other family members can use NetMeeting (for example). I
seem to fulfilled my requirements using vPoint OR Mirial on my laptop
with a Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Pro and a Plantronics Audio 90
headset. At the home-end I've got a D-Link DVC-1000 set-top box c/w
telephone. However, there is room for improvement - and I suspect
that the home-end is the most likely candidate. The D-Link is
*exactly* the right level of cost/complexity, (a PC solution would be
difficult for my 2 and 3 year olds - they can manage the D-Link remote
control!), but I'm open to suggestions if anyone can propose
alternatives.
If a few dollars more can produce significant gains......
