Raw Read Error Rate in S.M.A.R.T.

Many web sites list this stats as Critical error. How bad it is? I have two new Samsung SP2504C in RAID0, recent found unstable benchmark result (good when just installed). Using HD Tunes found single digit Raw Read error. Doing a surface scan will increase that error count to about forty.

Does this mean the time to replace HD? Will use Samsung's tool to do surface scan. Even it pass, since it kind of affects performance, I guess it is better to get them replaced. Am I right?

More about read error rate
  1. Basically, yes.

Raw read errors mean that the magnetic media inside the drive is no longer capable of reliably storing information in that sector. In many cases, this leads to a cascade of data errors on the drive.

If you value your data, replace the drive now.
