Update:

I posted some comments a while back about the WD 800JB 80G HD not
getting recognized at cold bootup with my k7s5a. I've swapped an
Nforce mobo (Biostar M7NCD-PRO) into the system, and nary a burp so
far. This leads me to believe the comments of one of the posters (in
the original thread) that WD HDs have a bit of a problem with some
systems. As a final note, I am using "cable select" with the HD, and
failed to try the "master/no slave" setting before giving up and
switching to another mobo.
