Need help, please. Version 6.0 (identical to 8.0, as best I can tell):
won't boot with the included, extra 2-USB- port-apparatus connected to mobo.
Unplugged it from the mobo, and it boots fine.

The USB headers on an ECS consist of two rows of pins:

1, 3, 5, 7, 9
2, 4, 6, 8, 10

1, 2: +5V (red)
3, 4: Data-
5, 6: Data+
7, 8: signal ground (black)
9: unused (blank, no pin)
10: +5V current sense

I believe that your problem was caused by your USB cable using pins 9
& 10 for cable shield grounds, meaning that they were connected
directly to the metal bodies of the USB sockets. IOW you had a short
between +5V and ground. When this happened to me with my ECS P4S5A2,
my USB bracket got very warm, and one of the connectors to the mobo
melted slightly. The solution was to pull pin 10 out of the cable
(disengage a latch on the connector first) and cover it with
heatshrink tubing (electrical tape is also OK but can come
unravelled).

I have an ECS K7SEM 1.0 mobo, and those pinouts don't seem to work for me. Testing with a flash drive, it didn't even light up, and it seemed to disable the built in usb ports as well. Had to shut down the system for a couple of minutes to get them working again. My manual doesn't show the pinouts either. Could this mobo be different?
