Hi,

nf7s wont boot. tried new ps and still wont boot. Disconnected all drives
still wont boot.tried diff mem still wont boot.

So i guess its the cpu or nf7s.The light still comes on the motherboard.

What would happen on the nf7s if you have a bad cpu.Would it be dead or just
bios beeps etc..

thanks for reading

When you turn on the PSU does the red LED on the Mbd lite up?

Then when you press the start button does the Green Lite on the Mbd
lite up??

What was the machine doing and how was it operating before this
problem occurred?? Do your case fans start and run??

Hi

When i turn on the ps the red led comes on on mb.

when i press start the green led does not come on.

I was converting a divx-dvd vob.The cpu does run hot always around 50 idle.

no fans move at all only sign of life is red light on mb.

thanks acc7

Ya this is not good, indicates the bios is not functioning (i.e., no
reason to blame the cpu at this point, but rather the motherboard
circuitry).

What I would do (since you have a new psu) is carefully examine the
power connectors on the mobo, reinsert them a few times. Do this with all
other jumpers and cards/dimms/cpu. If this has no effect, I'd remove the
cpu and store it for safe-keeping, as it's presence will have no further
effect on troubleshooting. You could do this with the ram and cards also.
Blow out the whole motherboard area with canned air and examine it carefully
for any signs of damage or shorts, and clean out the northbridge fan.

If this doesn't work, it's upgrade time :)

Chris,

I agree with RMS, this does not look good. and you should try what
was suggested. But 2 things:

First if your case fan runs directly of your PSU it should have
started when you turned on the PSU. If it is connected that way and
does not start, there maybe another problem. And you can check
whether your CD drive will open and close, when you try to turn on hte
Mbd. What we are looking for here is any signs of life in this box.

Second, There was a time when NF7's were having capacitor troubles.
And this affected the Onboard voltages. So check the eletrolytic
capacitors for any signs of bulging, leaking, discoloration. The Mbd
might be repairable. You might look at this url for repair
possibilities.
http://www.motherboardrepair.com/index.php?sec=home

However if your idle temp was 50c as you mentioned, I suspect that the
damage that led to this failure will be found to be severe. Check the
symptoms listed on the site above to see if any of them apply to your
situation.

Hope this helps some.
