well they are finally putting power link in my very small new hampshire town this week and i'm looking for a cable modem. the motorola sb5100 is on their list of recomended modems (also one of the few i can find, the others being linksys befcmu10 for $80 and the d-link dcm200 for $59) and it's only $51 @ newegg.

my question is how good is it? my mobo has a built in mobo: gigabyte ga-8pe667 845pe chipset
nic card (built in): intel(r) pro 100/ve network connection
os: xp home sp1
processor/ram: 2.4b p4 / 512mb pc2700 ram

I had Adelphia installed about 3 months and I'm using the SB5100. Its nice. It comes with a stand-by button to do soft power cycles or if you want to shut your modem off without having to unpower it. Putting it into standby just stops sending, and clicking the button again turns it back on without dropping your signal. I would recommend to go with the SB5100. I have yet to lose my signal once with it and I don't see any problems with it.
The original model they put out needed a firmware upgrade to fix a small problem with dropping the connection randomly, but the new model doesn't have this problem. I'm at work right now and I can't tell you what the model number would be for the one that doesn't need the firmware upgrade. Adelphia's tech support seems to be fairly easy to deal with when you're using the SB5100.
I pull 2.1MB off Cnet for their Cable/DSL test, 4500 score on Toast.net system. I'm the only one in my area using the powerlink service, but stick with the SB5100..
