Hi, I am planning on buying an XPS Gen2 sometime soon and the laptop I have configured on Dell website will cost me around 4000euro. After having searched eBay I found the exact same laptop I want selling for 2800euro. On the auction the seller claims (in German) that the laptop is brand new, boxed, and direct from Dell Ireland. The seller even let me configure it with 80GB HDD and English WinXp and seems to have a very good rating. I am very skeptical about buying it from this person since the price seems too good to be true. Does anybody have any idea how these resellers on eBay can offer these laptops for so cheap? What does Dell say about this?

It does sound too good to be true, but he seems to have a some positive deals involving selling other dell laptops on ebay. I can't really tell what they say those because I don't read German :P. It may be likely he is a Dell employee or something and gets discounts or is buying them from some other source.

Yeah, I mean it does seem legitimate to me since he does provide full name, tel. and address plus he has good rating and is verified member. Its just the people paying are the ones...(cough) my parents.... who are skeptical about this since they dont understand why Dell would allow their product sold for so much cheaper. So I am curious to know how this works with Dell or do they not care? I asked the seller and he claims that he orders them and sells 80 a month and therefore gets special rebates from Dell. He claims he has family that works at Dell as well.
