Thank for any help anyone can offer. I am looking for a birthday gift for my son. He wants to record game play from his xbox 360 to make videos on the computer. We have a Dazzle but the problem is that the game system is in one room and the computer in another. Are there any devices that he can record to that don't have to be hooked up to a compter at the same time? I am completely ignorant about all of this so any suggestions are welcome!

You can always go old school with a VCR.

I am not aware of any devices that can record then be uploaded. i have the Aver media HD DVR that comes with a decently sized cable. One thing you could do if you don't mind cords running under your carpet( if you dont have hardwood) you could get an extremely long USB cable made for you or purchased online.

36 ft USB Cable (they also make longer)

Hauppauge HD PVR High Definition Personal Video Recorder 1212 USB 2.0 Interface (192.99) So its quite pricey but best reviews wise.

It might be a better idea to buy him a smaller laptop if that is an option money wise. Not only can he use it to attach the already owned dazzle but he can use it for school projects too. Laptop would be a better longterm purchase then a new cap card.

Just an idea though!

I wouldn't recommend using a 36ft usb cable. Anything after about 6ft and you start having issues.

You could try a hdmi or component splitter then run a cable to the computer.
