More Information

Ill be ordering/building a new computer in September after I get back from a month long business trip. Any opinions on my new rig are wanted to make sure this will be a good gaming computer. Overclocking might be used, but probably only on the video card. Ill 1st list the parts Ill use from the old rig, then what Ill buy in 2 months.

Old rig:
a)Gateway 17" Monitor (will replace when 21" CRT goes below $200, maybe 19" )
b)160gb hard drive, cant remember company
c)mouse/keyboard/speakers
d)cd drive/dvd drive/ floppy
e)Gateway cd, i.e. windows and apps

New rig:
a)AMD 3500+ Venice
b)BFG Geforce 6800 GT
c)ASUS A8N-SLI Premium ATX AMD Motherboard
d)CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR
SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200)
e)Thermaltake SViking Mid Tower Case (Black)
f)Antec 2 SLI ATX 12V 550W Power Supply
g)Antec 120mm SmartCool Case Fan

Note: New rig components will be ordered and put together by MonarchComputer.com minus the video card, which I will order at cheapest price. SLI will be used as a future boost when 1 6800 GT cant hold up.

I doubt if your Windows from Gateway is going to install. None of my Dell supplied OS would install on anything but Dell equipment.

....WW (5.1)

More Information

Well my Gateway HD crashed and burned after only 1.5 years, so that 160gb is 6 mos old and took the gateway OS cd without any trouble. I bought it at Fryes.

More Information

The problem is even though you have the OS installed on the gateway machine, when you get all your new parts your going to have to reinstall. Since none of your new parts will be Gateway, your gateway cd isnt going to work.
