Ok, so basically I spent a lot of money and built a custom computer just so I could play Crysis and all the new games that are coming out in the near future on high to very high graphics, but whenever I play "Crysis" the game runs really slowly in the big open areas and even in gun fights. Ive set the game on high graphics and play on 1680x1050 resolution and I get poor gameplay. What am I doing wrong, HELP!!!

My computer specs.

add -dx9 to your start-up shortcut.

Low clocked Quad core CPU, thats the main problem. Should have went with at least an Intel 9550 if you wanted a PC just for Crysis.

I see this a lot through the forums...shock that Crysis runs like garbage from those with an AMD processor. AMD has tiny cache sizes and slow clocks compared to Intel so you will have to settle for less since you chose to go with AMD.

If you are going to pay on High at that res you will have to turn AA off for certain or drop to medium and leave it on. Also, playing in DX9 isn't a bad idea. DX10 kills Crysis and there is no reason to run it with DX10 on a graphics standpoint.

Your other options are to OC your RAM and GPU.

At 1680x1050, AA off, High settings, 29.8 fps average. "Average" means higher on light scenes and lower on intense scenes. You'll see noticeable frame lag at times.

There is a lot of hype surrounding the 4800s. And without seeing benchmarks, it's easy to overestimate its performance. Single 4850 simply lacks the raw power to conquer Crysis.

^ Agreed. The combination of a budget GFX card and a budget CPU will never be able to play Crysis well, at least on high.

*points at 2900 pro + e2160, both OC'd....* well my rig runs crysis fine at 1280x1024, and they're pretty budget parts....

It all depends on the settings, but, the resolution you are running is 1,310,270 pixels, natedog is running 1,764,000 pixels, so straight away, his rig has a 35% increase in the amount of graphics workload than yours.

Plus if you want to run FSAA, highest details and physics etc, the workload increases at an astonishing rate, if you look, you'll find people running crysis on P4's, but not with anything like the resolution or details.

I got to agree with the dualcore > quadcore and 4850? should have chipped in for the 4870 if you wanted to do Crysis, it's quite a bit better, also run it with dx9.

I haven't checked framerates but I run Crysis at 1680x1050 on a 8800GTX not maxed settings but not too shabby looking either and it runs well, only noticed some lag in the most intensive areas.

Soon upgrading to a 4870 and a better PSU, next upgrade is mobo/cpu/ram but that will have to wait a bit.

to the OP, as others have mentioned you were perhaps expecting a bit too much, maybe be more realistic and read more reviews.

I agree, AA will kill your frame rates in Crysis...

but trees, look horrible without it, lower res first, even with a LCD IMO.

I usually prefer a higher resolution over AA.....IMO

Wrong what? I am assuming you are saying both of my points are wrong. You can look in any review for my first point...you drop FPS when going to DX10. Second, if you use a mod or the file alterations to get the very high settings in DX9, you get the same visuals as in DX10...light beams scattering through trees...realistic fog/water...ect..ect...
