Hi there,

I just build a new rig, but when I play CoD4, the computer shuts completely down after ~30-60 min.

The specs:
Athlon64 X2 6400+
2 GB Corsair Twin2X DDR2-800 RAM
500 GB WD HDD
Inno3D GF8800GT OC, memory downclocked to 910 mhz (I'm putting an RMA on it, this card has 650 mhz core, 1680 mhz shader and 950 mhz mem as default)
Antec Nine Hundred case
Corsair TW750W PSU
WinXP Pro x64 SP2

I tried to log the temps and the +12V line with Everest, but the highest/lowest numbers I got was:

+12V: 11,97V (and this was not at the time of crash, this was way before)
Core0: 58 degree Celsius
Core1: 51 degree Celsius
GPU: 63 degree Celsius
Mobo: 42 degree Celsius

These numbers are far from critical...I just can't understand?? I've got the newest nVidia drivers.

Shuts down? Does it shut down normally, like if you were to shut down through the start menu, or does it just suddenly turn off?

I'll assume it is suddenly turning off. Hmmm, what kind of motherboard are you using?

Yes, it is suddenly turning off like someone flicked the switch. I'm using ECS KA3 MVP.
Right now I'm trying with the case open in case of poor air flow.

Monitor the temps of the GPU and the CPU and post them up here also. CPU im less worried about. amd cpu's run pretty cool, but Iv never heard of the brand "Inno3D", though that doesnt mean much...

possibly overheating or dust buildup of some sort?... put up the temps from the above post becuase if ur GPU is overheating that would probably do it or your cpu POSSILBY

Well, I doubt dust buildup because it is a few days old :S

With the case open, I haven't had any problems yet, so it might be a poor airflow...the CPU temp is maybe a bit high; opening the case reduced the temp by 6-7 degrees Celsius

My PC also started rebooting during gameplay after I installed my 8800GT 512MB.It seems to better now that I've installed Rivatuner and making the fan speed up when I am playing games.

How about the northbridge?

I just updated the southbridge, but what can I do with the northbridge besides giving it overvoltage through BIOS?

I have an 8800GT OC, though not by that brand, and it runs HOT. I have had similar problems while not using rivatuner; I think your gfx card is getting way too hot (I found the default fan speed settings weak, to say the least) so riva would be your best bet. Set the fan speed to 100%, play HARD for a few hours, and see what happens.

Under the 'default' setting, my gpu idles at ~50C, all the way to ~75+ when under load.....with riva it's down to ~44-58.

Good luck with your problem.

Well, I can't set fan settings under Riva....thats odd...however, I think I had a breakthrough yesterday: I was transferring a song to my girlfriends cellphone via a bluetooth dongle - and hey presto, the computer shuts down! Every single time I start the BT transfer!

Now, any suggestions..?

Did you try the dongle in different USB ports? Does your PC still shut down with the dongle removed while playing Cod4? Does it only shut down while playing Cod4?

Could it be faulty RAM? ONe of my RAM modules are faulty, but could the other RAM block be affected?

I didn't try different USB ports and the dongle has never been mounted before yesterday. It has never been plugged in while playing COD4.

Run memtest and see if it gives you any errors on your RAM.
