First satellite movie theater delivery
If movies on celluloid finally disappear, as they are expected to, yesterday's delivery of a full-length movie to a theater via satellite will be recorded in entertainment history books. Earlier this year, Twentieth Century Fox sent a digitized version of "Titan AE" to one theater through optical fiber but this event marks another step closer to completely digital theaters. Theatrical release of a movie on film requires as many as 4,000 copies costing from $1,500 to $2,000 each. Digital projectors cost $150,000 to $200,000 per screen.
