Did it just feel like yesterday that you upgraded from Firefox 3 to Firefox 4? It really wasn't all that long ago, as Firefox 4.0 hit on March 22, 2011. Now just three months later, Firefox 5.0 is set to hit.

Yeah, in no particular rush to upgrade at this point in time, FF4 is still perfectly functional in it's 3 months of old age...

Another contestant in this meaningless version number race.

Have these companies forgotten how to version number software properly? Bug fixes do not constitute an increase in major version. They arguably don't even constitute an increase in minor version number either.

Apparently version numbers will help make software better.
