FiberCycle servers to use Transmeta chips
Transmeta Corp., initially positioned as the chipmaker for mobile computing, has scored another server company win. FiberCycle Inc. has announced that Transmeta's Crusoe processor will be used in its WebBunker family of Content Acceleration Systems. FiberCycle uses a combination of software and hardware, much as Transmeta does, to lower energy requirements and increase server density. The company says its WebBunker technology fits up to 504 processors per data center rack, compared to traditional similar systems that can hold 40 to 84 processors. A WebBunker unit can hold 12 processors, each with 512MB of memory, in a box 3.5 inches high and 14 inches deep.
