by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Thanks to CyberPower, we have the early technical specs on the new flagship Fermi GF110.

Nvidia hinted at something big and new on the way. It touted it as the "Fastest DX11 GPU on Planet!" – and now we know what it is.

Courtesy of a press release, posted on TweakTown, from enthusiast rig maker CyberPower, we get to learn about the new Nvidia GeForce GTX 580, which is based on the GF110 GPU.

In addition to the vapor chamber cooler that we learned about earlier in the Nvidia presentation, we now know the GTX 580 runs at 772MHz, features 512 CUDA cores and packs 1.5GB of GDDR5 at 4008MHz, which is capable of delivering bandwidth of 192.4 GB/sec.

Yoyotech over here in the UK slipped up and announced it in systems yesterday.

Still looks like a GTX 485 to me, but what's in a name?

Even tho I like AMD/ATI a lot better, I still think that both companies should keep head-to-head competition...

Lower prices, better products, etc...

Yup, not only is it a GTX 485 but it's what the GTX 480 should have been.

OK Nvidia, you've proven you can make Fermi work with the GTX 460 and the GTX 580. Now, what have you got planned that is now actually going to blow us away?

NV are playing the naming game again I see. This is what the GTX480 *should* have been and it *should* have launched 11/12 months ago.

OTOH, if the bit-tech review Mi1ez posted is accurate then this does have favourable temps and power draw - finally a Fermi I could get excited about! Sadly this is no 5970-killer, and I get the feeling that we won't see a price drop on the 480 any time soon - they'll just slot this in above the 480 but price it a little below the top AMD card.

So, if power/temp stats are to be believed (I'm waiting for the THG review before I judge) then it sounds like they have finally sorted out the problems with the TSMC manufacturing process and the cooling for these beasts. I hope lessons will be learned for the GTX 680 ...assuming that will be a new chip and not another re-badging!
