Fat Storage in CompactFlash Form
Digital storage has steadily been seeping from the desktop into people's pockets. Whether your pocket contains a digital camera or a PDA, we experienced computer hacks know that more storage is always welcome. Toshiba hopes that its new 512 MB CompactFlash card, the THNCF512MAA, will be used by OEMs in digital still and video cameras, audio players, PDAs, solid state disk drives, and embedded storage solutions. Toshiba says the THNCF512MAA achieves a sustained write speed of 3.2 MB/s and a sustained read speed of 5.4MB/s. The little gizmo is housed in a 3.3 mm thick card to meet the requirements of the CompactFlash Association Type-I Specification. It is now shipping in OEM quantities. However, with sample price of $499 each, it sure could make for an expensive MP3 player.
