FARO Presents New 3D Color Laser Scanner LS
This is no flatbed scanner but one that can catch lifelike images that can be used in a variety of applications. FARO Technologies, Inc. has developed a new tool for 3D laser scanning in color. The FARO Laser Scanner LS is a portable, computerized measurement device that scans, digitally recreates and records all of an object or area’s dimensions, creating what looks like a "photograph" on the computer screen but in 3D. The captured data can be used to create a digital model for inspection, reverse-engineering, CAD-to-part comparison, factory planning, or investigations for industries ranging from power, process and piping to forensics, surveying and historical preservation. When combined with the specially calibrated Color Bracket, new Nikon D200 and FARO Scene v4.1 software, the FARO Laser Scanner LS provides high-speed capture of 50 million color pixels in only 2.5 minutes, minimized parallax errors, automatic white balance, automatic color capture, automatic color overlay of 3D pixels and 10 megapixel color vs. six in the previous version. The color Laser Scanner LS will be available in April 2007.
