If you’re not a gamer, you won’t get much joy out of the Windows 10 Game bar. The upside is that it doesn’t take any resources unless you activate it. The downside is that it is another Windows ‘feature’ sitting on your device that you don’t need. Here’s how to turn off the Windows 10 Game bar.
Turn off the Windows 10 Game bar
For once, Microsoft have made is very simple to turn off a feature you don’t want. If you press Windows key + G now within a game, the Windows Game bar appears. Once you have completed these four steps, it should no longer appear.
1. Open the Settings menu and navigate to Gaming. This is the new feature added in the Windows 10 Creators Update.
2. Select Game bar from the left menu. It should be selected by default as it is the first entry.
3. Toggle off ‘Record game clips, screenshots and broadcasting using Game Bar’. This is the setting that turns off the Windows 10 Game bar permanently.
4. Uncheck the boxes next to ‘Open the Game car using this button on a controller’ and ‘Show Game bar when I play full-screen games Microsoft has verified’. Just for completeness, these two settings remove any trace of the Game bar.
Once done, if you open a full screen game and press Windows key + G nothing should happen. If you want to use Game bar at a later date, just reverse these steps to enable it again.
