Facebook adds new privacy tools

by - source: Tom's Hardware

So many people complain that they don’t have a clue how to use the Facebook privacy tools. What’s Facebook’s answer to the problem ? More privacy tools ! Privacy tools for everyone, hurray !!

Facebook yesterday launched new tools, which endeavour to help you share your information “comfortably” in a controlled way on the site.

So four years after it was launched, Facebook has decided it’s time to implement a “standardised privacy policy”. We wonder why it took them four years to think that maybe people were confused because the privacy settings for everything was different. . .

Aside from cleaning up the privacy settings the site has chucked in a few new ones as well. This includes the launch of a new friends of friends option, which lets friends’ friends view your profile instead of them needing to add you first.

You can now also control who sees what on your profile. By labelling your friends (family, College, Work etc) you can allow certain things in your profile to only be viewable by certain groups.

Facebook has been the subject of a lot of controversy when it comes to privacy and sharing information. In December users were shocked to find out that a program called Beacon meant that purchases they were making elsewhere on the web was being published in their profile without their permission. There was more controversy when people discovered that even if they deleted their profile, Facebook still kept their info on file.

If you’re a little bit lost on how to do any of this, just look for the customise options. . .
