Extra Athlon64 pin mystery solved
The mystery of why a version of AMD’s upcoming 64-bit processor will come in 940 and 939 versions, first revealed in the INQUIRER, appears to have been partly cracked. "AMD said that the extra pin is needed to work on six layer Opteron motherboards. As we said earlier, the chips will first start shipping in 940 Opteron configurations, and they will start to appear after the official launch date in September."
