Exploding mobile phone death was a hoax
Some of you may remember an incident in Indonesia earlier in the week where a man was killed by his exploding mobile phone. . .
The 33 year old quarry-worker was found dead with a burning mobile phone in his shirt pocket with the man’s co-worker claiming that his phone had exploded in his pocket. Doctors were skeptical as the man’s injuries and the exploding phone tale didn’t quite match up.
Turns out the man’s co-worker, now known as Kwon Young-sup, created this little fabrication to cover up an accident, which he allegedly played a rather significant role in.
Kwon neglected to check his rear-view mirror before reversing a heavy duty vehicle and accidentally pinned his colleague to a rock.
Police are unsure as to whether the phone exploded due to the pressure of being pinned, or if Mr Young-sup was responsible for the melting phone prop . . .
A spokesperson for LG, the manufacturer of the handset in question, said that the reported explosion was impossible as most mobiles contain lithium polymer batteries, which undergo rigorous testing to rule out spontaneous combustion.
