Europe to investigate Microsoft
The European Commission has been ordered to investigate claims that Microsoft violated European antitrust rules.
A European court found that the EC had been wrong to dismiss a complaint by a French software wholesaler that Microsoft tried to stop it from buying cheaper software in Canada for resale in France.
A Microsoft spokesman says the issue at stake in Europe is different from the ongoing regulatory battle in the US, calling such resales a possible cover for the sale of counterfeit products.
In November, a U.S. court held that Microsoft is a monopoly that stifles competition and hurts consumers.
