Eurocom announces 'fastest mobile workstation', offers Geforce 6800 Go

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Nepean (ON) - The Canada-based manufacturer pumps up the performance of its desktop replacement product line with the new model D900. The notebook can be equipped with anything money can (and not yet) buy - ranging from a 3.6 GHz processor to 4 GByte of memory, up to 320 GByte harddrive space - and Nvidia’s not-yet-announced Geforce 6800 Go.

If you are looking for a high-end mobile computer and size (and money) is not your concern, then Eurocom may just offer what you are interested in. The company will soon offer a new high-end version of what is called a mobile workstation to offer high performance in the shape of a notebook.

The D900 will be available in various configurations but can be equipped with Athlon 64 or Pentium 4 Prescott processors up to 3.6 GHz in combination with Intel’s 915P chipset and up to two and four GByte of DDR 400 MHz or DDR2 533 memory. Graphics are offered as 256 MByte solutions from ATI and Nvidia, the latter with a choice of a Geforce 6800 Go or Quadro FX Go1400.

The D900 can be ordered with harddrive space of 160 GByte or 320 GByte in a dual-harddrive solution. Other features include 1 GBit LAN, 802.11b/g support, Bluetooth, a integrated 6-in-1 card reader, a 4x DVD+-RW burner, a TV tuner, an integrated PC camera and a subwoofer. The 17" screen can be configured for WSXGA+ (1680x1050) or WUXGA (1920x1200) resolutions.

The D900 notebooks are priced from $2500 with a fully equipped high-end version topping out at around $5000 with 3.2 GHz P4 processor as the fastest option of the current online configuration sheet provided by Eurocom’s press release.

An interesting touch of the product announcement is the availability of the Geforce 6800 Go chip - a mobile GPU Nvidia has not officially announced yet. Nvidia spokesperson Diane Vanasse said that she was unaware of Eurocom’s D900 announcement.

Eurocom could not be reached for comment on the availability of the D900 and the Nvidia GPU.
